Improving the global ranking calculation

i see two ways to improve the global ranking calculation:

1.vary the maximum number of points for the levels depending on the number of players on this level. this would remove the need for limiting the maximum level rank to #99. but it would make some levels more important than others, which is what i would like to avoid.

2.gradually decrease the influence of the level rank. eg. each level rank position for #1-#50 counts as 1 pt, but #50-#100 gives only 0,5 pt per rank, #100-#150 is 0,25 per rank and so on. effectively, even with a huge number of players on certain levels we can ensure that each level influence can be limited to 100 pts and there is still a difference between #600 and #601 (in this case it would be 0,0002441406). i like this idea, but it is not very intuitive like the current "1 pt for each rank".

To Bones: Yes, i pick option 7 and option six. I'm still an average player i guess. For me i have a slogan: A record a day keeps the doctor away ( not an apple a day )

To Mike: I think DK plays just like us. Look at his position in historical 1 and 2 years chart of BOD. Not like Dr. C who submit all of his game and get the third position right away.

To Kris: Gee, i never guess i will get top 10, but i'll try my best to make my time gradually better and better. Just as i told before, i maybe only submit one or two records a day otherwise my thumb will become very sore, so the way up there will be soooo long. Unless the new pack consist of 25 levels release and there is a rule that the top tenners don't play the pack for the first week, maybe i can get more 1800 points and go to the top ten

Bones, the "extra boost" does help the players. But the top 10 players will also recieve an extra boost. Assuming the top 10 players have faster times and the weaker players are trying to "catch up" the 10-15 ranks that get bonus is useless as the better players will have the 1-10 ranks of bonus already. Sure they would be closer to their goal then, but then its just the same as right now where the weaker players struggle to pass the better players. Since the better players are usually ranked top 10, then the bonus should be for the top 10. It is motivation, and it will help weaker players more than it would help them if it went to 15.

yes they all get boosts but going to15 encourages them all the more to up their scores as much as they possibly can causing lots of competition in levels among more people

My vote is for Option #6. It is much harder to pick up a medal than to just move in to the top 10 for a level and I think it should be reward more for that reason.

After considering all the options, and even my own suggestions, i am still unsure what i should vote for. I mean, i like the idea of bonus points, but the only thing i think any of these options will do, is jumble around the top 3 a little bit by putting DK in 3rd and having me and Cirenco compete for gold. What will happen to all you other people who are excited for the bonus points???? Well, every person that is already ahead of you, will be getting the bonus points as well, and, because they are a higher rank than you, that also means that they will be getting more bonus points then you are.... So in reality, all you people hoping to catch up to those ahead of you will now be farther behind after we put in the bonus points.

But on the other hand, the bonus points encourage people to get better times which will improve the overall quality of play in the game. This is good, right? However, then when someone loses a gold, they are losing 7 points. Now people will spend hours and hours focusing on golds and the TTC will shift from people spending their time trying to overall improve on their times in every level to people trying to get fast times on specific levels. Is this wat we want to have? a bunch of little vega's running around

??? Or do we want people playing all the levels and getting medals as they improve like i did, Kris did, pmd, vin, alex, gus, smalls and so on and so on.

Then theres the issue of golden club, what we are doing now with bonus points will turn the TTC into a true overall champion both of medals and of fast times. Then what use is the golden club now???

These are just a few things to think about. I dont mind golden points, it will only make it harder for you guys to catch me

but i think we should be aware of the impact this will have before we go ahead, and as long as we all think its a good idea, then we should go ahead. Maybe if we are lucky we can get some input from DK, and Tabs who have been here for a while, and SZ too.

also, you are right that it is designed to motivate others to play better. And yes this will make the competition a little tougher but I believe that the top people in BoD already play about as well as they can so the idea in mind here to not to make the best better. I don?t think there is much for that

But it will give people more of a reason to obtain better times. And players will definitely be able to play a widespread # of levels and do well. But the BP will reward a player properly for a hard earned top spot!

Also everyone should keep in mind that Mike raises a good point above. Having 15 slots is not at all an advantage for the players who are hoping that the 11-15 slots will benefit from that. Because most of the top players games are already in the top ten, they will always be obtaining the top bonus and in option #7 the #10 bonus begins at 6 instead of 1. But option # 7 heavily favors the best players and does not favor the very good players that occasionally obtain #11-#15. Just food for thought

Golden club is very different bcuz the BP scale is for ?current? top spot holders and the points can come and go based on ranking changes. The golden club simply tallies the days players hold gold and it?s permanent. The golden club points can NEVER go down. If you lose all your golds, you will still be recognized for your golds bcuz your points will remain. It?s also quite different bcuz it?s for the top spots?. not just gold.
