| | | As for the Phantom Flag, My entire wheel can completely go straight through some flags. The final 3 flags on Sinus mountains are the worst. I will post several replays that show me legitimately beating the current gold but crashing into the ground because my tire flew straight through the flag. So it's not because the shape of it. Also keep in mind the the bombs or mines show no mercy. Infact, usually you only need to get 'near' a mine and you die. But "Glass" is the only level I am aware of that the mine doesn't always kill you. Perhaps it's not a good idea to change old levels, but what about changing all levels made from now on. No sense in continuing to keep that problem if it can be fixed on the new levels eh?
Sz as for these other enhancements you are doing.... I love it. Very very cool |

| | | "phantom flag" - oh! if the wheel goes through the flag then the cause must be different! i would gladly see the example recording exhibiting such behavior.
and yes, the website needs improvements, including the clickable smilies. this will be done after releasing the v1.5 beta while waiting for the bug reports |

| | | There's a 1.5 beta?? |

Vega
| | | Sinus - always one of the final 3 flags
Puzzle - top left flag
Underground - finish flag
Obstacalis Muchus - last red flag

| | | The bombs are a closer match, as they are round as well as having circular impact detection zones.
The flags icon does not match the round detection zone.
What you have shown is exactly what we have all seen at some time (you aren't alone) - but the only real answer would be to put in red round blobs instead of square flags to more accurately indicate the contact zone....
Maybe someone should try to design a "round" flag for Sz to use instead - but again - I reiterate - Please don't alter the collision detection rules |
|
Sz
| | | Lee: exactly! after watching these examples i noticed that the "failed contact" always happened in the corner of the flag - i.e. in the place where the flag covers "too much" space compared to the imaginary circle.
rounded and/or slightly smaller flags should help! |

| | | I am confused. Are you going to change the way the flags look on all the replays already submitted? I understand the whole "don't change the detection settings" because then it would negate past efforts based on original detection settings. But what is the problem with leaving the flags just as they are and making the next version of BoD have a 'square' or 'rectangular' flag detection area on all new levels. This wouldn't effect any previous submissions so everyone would have the same playability right from the start. I don't think making the flag a 'true' target area is going to ruin the playability of levels. I think it would enhance the exactness of it and be a LOT less aggrevating. When my tire goes through a flag and I had a really good run otherwise, there are times when I just want to light my Treo on fire and melt it. That's a bit unnecessary |

| | | Simple solution - How about adding a "halo" around the flag to indicate the detection zone.
Flag would be smaller to fit inside

| | | SZ, here is another Underground finish flag replay that looked like it would be a better time (just glad it actually did finally finish):

Also, I like the halo idea although I am not crazy about the example flag Lee gave (I know he was just giving an example though). With the current finish flag, I am not positive (even after hundreds of thousands of games) where exactly that halo lies. |

| | | Sz, BoD is already global for sure, but I believe this game has the potential to be be GIGANTIC!! There is a lot to be said for the fact that in this techno advanced era with games that look so life-like and real, and have so much depth, that you have developed a devoted group of players to this crazy simple little game. I don't even play other games. All the stuff that's available out there, and you have us all hooked primarily on BoD. I think it's because of the endless possibilities of play, creation and association. BoD is amazing enough to have tens of thousands of players all over the world playing and competing. I don't know if you have the desire and/or business savvy to achieve this, but if you did in fact choose to pursue it, BoD would not fail you in that endeavor!
Good work Sz |
