Anti-Aliasing

I know that you already said you can't do this but I did some reading and here is a little guide to Supersampling.

I think the point was, it's too slow in software with a CPU that is comparable to a P2.
Nice blog, thought.

nice! i see you are taking your ideas seriously

yes, this is the simplest possible anti-aliasing which can be used in any application without much hassle, however the processing power requirements are quite big. for each 320x320 frame, over a megabyte of data must be processed. this is probably too much for the current palm hardware.
(unless we want to display antialiased 160x160 instead of "sharp" 320x320... well, actually this could be interesting on low end treo or zire, they don't have hires anyway)

nevertheless, i'm tempted to see what would be the performance (but only after all other BoD v2 issues are closed, of course )

btw. Dmitri Grinberg once experimented with an emulated 640x640 display for palm but i don't know if any final product was released (applications are fooled to believe the screen is of such high resolution, and a special system extension scales this virtual screen into 320x320 giving the antialiased output as a side effect. BoD could theoretically run in such environment but the performance cannot be good...)

Yes we could say that performance would be a fifth because we are endering four times as much image and then squashing it nicely not just taking every other pixel every other line so if a device normally get 50fps (which i guess not that many do, especially to lower end ones) then we would have 10fps. Now if you did MSAA (multisampling) and only did the edges you coud use a LOT less power and the performance would be OK, but I guess this is what you were saying about it being a little too much right now. Mabye you could try SSAA with the BW version as most palms can do this in their sleep. Probably because palms don't actually sleep but anyway...
