My apologies to Vega. I didn't look back far enough in the thread to see that he was indeed the culprit that began the discussion of the old players that don't submit anymore.

You're right BikerBrian about my focus. There was a time when I worked the levels until they were Gold (I can see that thanks to the Internet Archives WaybackMachine - http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://bike.toyspring.com ).

Here is a moment in time for me - http://web.archive.or g/web/20071021091109/ http://bike.toyspring .com/player.php?p=1834 - I wish they had later than Oct 18 2007. That wasn't the pinnacle of my game.

I remember having almost double the number of silvers and bronze as gold. I was looking to move up in TTC to #2 and that was the quickest way to do it.

A look at my rankings graphic shows that bell curve:

plrankchart.php?p=1834

The most lasting would have been to work on the levels until Gold, but I may not have made it to #2 that way.

Cmon Vega, you know there are no hard feelings. You just need to apply yourself more.

In truth, though, all that talk about never getting blown away again by someone new made me realize that we're all overlooking something: Pickle still hasn't made his huge submission yet.

Good point Laser.

Here's an interesting snapshot of Oliver just days after I first submitted my first game (July 1995).

http://web.archive.or g/web/20051125113228/ bike.toyspring.com/player.php?p=470

When you are first starting, that sure looks like an impressive collection of medals on the Standard Pack (9 Golds, 3 Silver, and 8 bronze). But after farther review (and the perspective of time) look at the time comparison of Oliver's medals (Standard Pack had been out a full year) to the current medals:

Gold vs. Gold (1.32 Seconds Difference Average)
1) 27.78 vs. 26.38 (1.40 Seconds - Mike Flips)
2) 12.20 vs. 11.86 ( .34 Seconds - Smalls)
3) 20.72 vs. 19.58 (1.14 Seconds - Champ)
6) 19.68 vs. 19.08 ( .60 Seconds - Vega)
9) 25.34 vs. 21.68 (3.66 Seconds - Mike Flips)
12) 32.56 vs. 32.06 ( .50 Seconds - Smalls)
16) 38.62 vs. 36.74 (1.88 Seconds - Mike Flips)
17) 30.04 vs. 28.94 (1.10 Seconds - Vega)
24) 12.10 vs. 10.82 (1.28 Seconds - Spence)

Silver vs. Silver (1.41 Seconds Difference Average)
5) 17.32 vs. 16.68 ( .64 Seconds - Vega)
13) 27.18 vs. 25.76 (1.42 Seconds - Vega)
22) 28.60 vs. 26.42 (2.18 Seconds - Mike Flips)

Bronze vs. Bronze (3.64 Seconds Difference Average--Granted there are a couple of new tricks in this bunch)
8) 33.24 vs. 29.72 (3.52 Seconds - Cirenco)
10) 38.26 vs. 36.92 (1.34 Seconds - Laser)
14) 53.54 vs. 51.54 (2.00 Seconds - Shane)
18) 30.72 vs. 17.66 (13.06 Seconds - PMD)
20) 34.30 vs. 32.92 (1.38 Seconds - Shane)
21) 22.02 vs. 19.80 (2.22 Seconds - Mike Flips)
23) 24.60 vs. 22.64 (1.96 Seconds - PMD)

We're not talking about 1 frame here. Most of those are well over 1 second.

Interesting.

You're the best, PMD, and that site is a new bookmark.

Also, 1995? Had I know you'd been around for over 15 years, I'd never have stolen your golds before!

That's a great breakdown PMD, but in fairness to Oliver (and the whole concept), I think it might be more appropriate to consider where Oliver ended, since all the times on the right are for our current best anyway. For example, Oliver had a much better time now on Level 1, I think 27.08 or something. And I know for sure he's got a better time on Underground, like 16.82. I understand the point you were making here, as you laid it out pretty clearly, but to compare his old scores to all of our newest and best scores isn't exactly fair.
Mr.pickle.
Good grief... I don't check in for 2 days and I have to spend 15 mins catching up, if you guys are gonna make big posts stop making them so darn interesting when a poor guy like me should be getting some sleep!

I like the talk though... Very amusing, gotta love videogames history

just wait Laser give me another...umm ... 15 years or so... I'll blow you ALL away

Pickle, it's crazy how the forum will be dead for weeks or months and then several pages of posts in 2 days... you have to stay on your toes.

Here are some more interesting statistics showing the percentage of games in the Top 3 and Top 10 (real rank) for the Top 5 in TTC, along with the worst level per person.

Mike - Top3: 45%, Top10: 84%, hasn't completed all levels
Brian - Top3: 20%, Top10: 84%, 87 pts (100 Yd Dash)
Laser - Top3: 26%, Top10: 71%, 75 pts (Sixpack Squared)
Tyler - Top3: 23%, Top10: 68%, 71 pts (Underground)
PMD - Top3: 15%, Top10: 73%, 79 pts (Braking School)

These values were derived from the statistics provided by   casey . They show the difference in strategy that PMD and I have used. We have more of our levels in the Top 10, while Mike, Laser, and Tyler have more in the Top 3.

The only downside to my strategy is that it requires me to play levels that I don't enjoy.

I'll be waiting, Pickle, I'll be waiting.

Don't how my stats would be adjusted if I replay some of those levels. A lot of my worst times are in the last two packs. Of course I'd have to replay them...

well i won't be waiting. good luck, pick.
