That's right- it's pretty well all open now for me.

I've been thinking about doing it for some time now, and I finally came to terms with the fact that I can't rise rank anymore.
Also, I've realized that a major deterrent of new players joining is that all the levels seem to be played to the max, with crazy unthinkable times. You might think the same, until you actually see the open games.
Exhibit A:  Shane vs. Laser

Exactly.

Then, without mentioning any names, there seems to be another issue. Owning levels. "I made the level, so you can't have gold on it," or "This level is MINE," or "If you take from me, I have to take from you" followed by, "I guess he's right and now this level is off limits to me, even though I like playing it." That knocks the level count down quite a bit and kills competition.

The game has to revert back to playing for fun. No more politics in who gets to set up the new pack. No more players thinking that they have to ask permission to get their ideas in. The levels are for everyone, so everyone is part of it. This problem seems to be fixed now, but is still something to think about when dealing with the concept of new players joining and staying and not being intimidated.

Just play for fun. That's it- play what you want, when you want. Then maybe more players will trickle in.

Well, even though I made it, I never intended to get gold on Inspired when it is HoF, as I really stink at it .

However, Haunted is MINE .

What you mean only 2300 pts to get #50??? What's your score???
Shane
Well said that man. I like to keep things open for much the same reasons.

It's surprising you don't approve of a revenge strategy though. Isn't that what you did to Kris & PMD? Perhaps you are a born again biker?

Anyway, its great to see all those open games. Cheers
Shane
Exhibit B:  Laser vs. Shane
Laser
It was never revenge to take away golds from Kris and PMD. I had finished taking golds from Cirenco, so I needed another player who didn't really care. Enter Kris. As for PMD, I just happened to like certain levels, and he "had" it.

Hey, has anyone tried cablecaring on the way back here:

Maybe it could save a second?

Oh the joy of creating / finalizing new levelpacks... actually it's not all sarcasm... it is fun. But you guys bring up good points.

Laser... I here ya...but at the same time, I'd say that you have as many "crazy unthinkable" times as anyone in BoD. It's easy to figure that there are several different kinds of players that make up the active BoD community. In no particular order...

1. Players who play all levels and are very quick to move onto the next level. Usually are not very concerned with getting a medal or playing a level 4000 times to get a top spot.
2. Players who play all levels very well across the board. These players usually maintain a top 30 rank overall, with some top ten spots in there.
3. Players who play all levels extremely well and have several or even many golds/medals and usually maintain a top 10 spot. (Spence, Laser, Shane, PMD, Kris.... etc)
4. Players who play most levels but only certain levels very well and excel tremendously at those levels (Tabs comes to mind)
5. Some crazy dude that sticks to only particular levels and keeps playing them over and over an over and over to keep medals. hmmm. I wonder who that could be....
6. Mike Flips.

So when you have so many different playing strategies, it's tough to make everyone happy. As for "owning" a level and getting irate when someone "steals" your gold... that's hogwash for the most part. (but it's also fun to talk smack a little bit! ) I know as well as anybody what it's like to lose a prized gold medal. It sucks. But that's the game. That's the comp. Sometimes when players go back and forth on stealing golds it's a great show to watch (Tabs vs Mike on that one 19.xx level and also Cemetery) (Me and Oliver on Underground a while back)... so that's fine... but then it can also be quite annoying when you work very hard to obtain gold and the other person wants to beat you just for the battle aspect. Sorry to throw this out there but Kris comes to mind for some reason I guess what I am trying to say there that it can be lame to battle another excellent player for a tough gold if that's not what you're trying to do. Sometimes it's just too time consuming and I'd have rather put my time elsewhere if I knew that was gonna happen.

The whole "This is my level and I have to gold on it." I understand that as well as anyone... but also I LOVE the competition on my levels. If I was the only one with strong times, I would feel that my levels were being rejected. Having Spence and Laser as solid comp on KK is great. Now with Xuzz and Laser on Pirates, let the fun begin!!!

So anyways, Mike brought up some great points too. He explained taking the reigns as the Levelpack organizer perfectly! That's really what's it's all about. Nice job Mike.

wow sorry for the long post...
Laser
But the problem with...WHOA! 4000 times to get a top spot? Really? I spent more than 3000 on around 10 of my times, and I just wanted to perfect those

But anyway, I was just saying it's a game for everyone, so it should be an everyone game. "Steal" golds, be "annoying,"
do what you want.

And why does Mike get his own category?
Although it is funny how you spelled "rein" as "reign." I'll not to read too much into that typo.
