The problem is not a lack of ground points; as long none of the lines are more than two bike lengths long, the physics work normally (except for extremely short lines).
But what should he bike do when it crashes like that? Shatter or explode?

Kris - it's ground points. If there were 3-4 points there, I guarantee his tire would not have gone into the wall. Put my Pirates level into designer and you will see where I added ground points to certain key areas. When you jump onto the ship, the first part has reinforcements so you don't fall thru the ship. When you jump onto the Pirate's flame handle at the bottom, you almost always land and bounce. Before I added extra ground points, I almost always fell stright through the handle and died. When you make the final jump/fly toward the finish flag and one of the options is to careen off that little lip near the top of the cave, notice how I put about 4 points there? Before I did that, the tire would almost always go into the wall and you would fail right at the flag. Infact I even completed it with my tire in the wall but I hadn't died yet. These are the type of 'glitches' that I wanted to avoid as much as possible in my levels. It still happens in some parts of Batman cuz the level is so jagged, but that's ok

oh and Coal Miner is ridiculous (sorry bones, kind of, well not really actually ). I wish we had tested that level more. I am always in the wall in the first half. Very annoying If you hit the wall/ground too hard, you should just die. But the PHYSICS should decide what is too hard so that we can all test the limits and play to our best

Explain this:

But jagged ground does have many ground points, so why does it make the wheels go through the ground?

Heres how it works.

If you are going fast enough, and you wheelie at the right moment, or u are really fast, you go through the wall.
ITs that simple... Think of the wall as drywall... its very solid you can throw things at it and bash into it, but if you run full speed into a drywall you are going to break it.

Ok everyone. Mike and Kris.

You both have made so many levels and have so many top times. You are definitely 2 of the top experts in BoD ever. So I am surprised that there is a misunderstanding about this between all of us here.

Get enough speed and you can go thru ANY wall or ground. Even tho Superman is lined with points throughout, I can still fly through the wall bcuz of the speed. But I guarantee that Superman could not be played nearly as fast and it would not be half as much fun if I had not beefed up the wall with points. As for Champ going into the ground on Pirates, that's bcuz there are zero ground points in that little lip. I have never gone into the ground there and I have played Pirates more than anyone, so I don't think that will be happening very often. I have noticed though, that in certain levels where there are jagged spots, like in Batman and Coal Miner, sometimes it is not always speed that causes it. If the tire gets wedged between two points, it can 'suck' or 'pull' the tire straight into the wall. Sometimes certain spots cause a funny reaction to the physics. A good is example are RSP2. Also You Qi's freestyle game on UJump where his bike flies across the level. That's because he went through one ground and stopped at the ground underneath, then when it was time for the bounce, it launched him bcuz it was the force of the landing ground AND the ground he went through for a split second. Another good example is Save the Princess and Mario. The head on the ground in STP and the little goober in Mario. You can put your tire straight through both of them. Also in CMR, when you are snagging the last red flag, if your tire gets wedged in that little corner, you can just forget it bcuz you'll never get out and within seconds you will be sucked into the wall like some creature in a horror movie has got you and is just pulling you in. If you don't believe me try it. It's bizarre.

The bottom line is that you can strengthen the ground and the wall with more points. This is not my opinion. It's a fact. I am not saying that the points make it impossible to go through, but it strengthens it greatly. So anyway, this might seem like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, but it helps to know these things, especially with all the people making levels now

I haven't noticed that; I will do some tests later.

Vega: about the last red flag in CMR: what happens is that the bike wheel when you accelerate is touching both the bottom and top of that little cone, so it is accelerating you both forwards and backwards, eventually ending up with you dying as you were moving to the right anyway. The same thing also happens in OrR's Cave, where you can get stuck in almost the same way in the part to the left.

Talk about bumping threads , this is a year and a half old .
