That's better! This level shows the power of leaving your game closed. This was one of the longest standing golds (held by MF). Now it is 3 seconds faster. Thanks to Kris for causing me to take another look at this level. I had not played it on my iPhone until a few days ago.

I used to have over 30 golds, and I definitely have lost my fair share over the years, so I know how it feels to get them and then lose them quickly.
I'll reword my point to make it clearer:
Keeping runs private does kill the competition for that level so you can keep your gold, but it also kills competition for the game in general when every level is like that. No one plays for second place, so why even start playing when first seems so unattainable?

I have no problem playing to best a secret gold run. Save for some crazy unknown trick hidden only within a secret run, the more I play a level where the gold is secret, the closer I get to being able to beat that time and I really couldn't care less to see the secret gold anymore.

... and by the way, I totally played for second place on CYBR. I had 19:02, and played another 2,000+ tries to achieve 18:92.

Oh, and this one.

Why don't I just open all of my secret golds for you!? Alright, here you go... but I better get some serious props for this run - at least from you and Vega.

My favorite moves on this level are the flip-drop onto the back wheel (16:60), the hop from the left-most hill directly to hooking the back wheel on the cable (22:50), and the clean run on the way back under the mercedes symbol (36:00), allowing me to keep momentum for the climb.

There aren't too many levels that have this much of a time gap between first and everyone else (except laser tag). Have fun!

Serious props indeed.

The difference between you and the next open games is the move at 22:50. How many tries did that take you to do that? It doesn't look especially hard, but for some reason no one thought of it.

Thanks! Mike and Kris had done a version of the first drop, so I thought I needed to bring some innovation with the hop to the cable. It turned out to be harder than I thought to get the right amount of momentum - the back wheel would typically slip off. What makes it even harder is that it is very difficult to get a good drop, coupled with a clean run under the mercedes symbol.

I don't have the statistics anymore... I guess I lost them when upgrading to the iPhone5 recently. It was definitely several thousand though.

I see what you mean. At 23.75ish when you pop up going that slow, it's hard to completely control the subsequent drop down (which is the exact opposite motion).

I guess you needed to brake heavily and get lucky in that split second, due to the "lip" of the cable being small.

BoD Mastery!

Thanks, Vega. I remember this being one of the hardest levels for me to complete when I was first learning BoD. I couldn't figure out how to hang from the left-most cable and get back up. As you mention in the "confessions" thread, this run did not come by accident. At least for me, gold runs come only after thousands (and sometimes tens of thousands) of tries to learn all parts of the map. Even after learning all the moves, the challenge is to put it all together. I'm very proud of this run.

I still enjoy watching this run from time-to-time...
