PrayeR | ppc :)hi SZ,
any news about ppc version? or You won't port BoD on ppc? |
Kristopher | | | Palm OS will pretty much cease to exist when Palm's contract with Palm Source expires in 2009. I like Palms, but PPC are overtaking them and have really nice VGA screens. |
| PrayeR | | | who knows?
after announcing treo on Win mobile all can happens.
btw, palmsource was bought by japans (Access)
probably they will push palmOS to new level?
as for me i think 5.x is ok and good, but i bought ppc, because palm (palm1) makes terrible hardware. |
| Sz | | | yes, i'm going to make the ppc version if only to test that platform (i mean, from the developer perspective). who knows, i might even like it
for now i'm happy with the simplicity of the palm os and i can stay here for very long, but it depends on the market. |
| Lee | | | Nice to read some positive developer comments after this weeks discussions from people like the TITALY developers complaining that the Palm OS is just too varied from device to device, with little help to the devlopers from Palm.
I just dont do enough multimedia stuff or even office stuff to justify a move to PPC yet, but from a business perspective, I think Kris is right.... the Palm OS may well be living on borrowed time. |
| MunkYBoY | | | Sz, im like dying here. when are you gonna release the next version of BoD? |
| PrayeR | | | Kristopher | | | This is great news! I thought I might have to stick with Palm OS to play this game, but now I guess I won't. Finally I can get a REALLY nice PDA and have something better to play than ported Playstation games. This could open up a whole new audience and a wave of competition, and it might bring enough revenue to keep SZ here instead of writing another program. This game is just too good to abandon.
One major question in the PPC version is, "Will the bike have the same resolution in VGA (PPC) as it does in HVGA (Palm Os), giving people twice the view on PPC, or will the bike be of higher resolution, so it is the same size (CM) on both platforms?"
Changing the web site shouldn't be too hard, although uploading files and generating Flash replays will take awhile.
If you have used the Rsrcedit Palm program, you have probably noticed that Bike or Die uses standard methods for saving levels and pictures; I'm not sure if there is an easy way to convert this to PPC or not. Also, I don't think PPC ever had a grayscale era, so some display modes will not need to be converted. And another thing to consider is getting the existing players' best times and recordings to the other platform, which could be very hard.
But no matter how many PPC players start playing this game, I'm still keeping my medal on Konecnik Down.

| Sz | | | As for the resolution - i'm going to add the customizable zoom in the next (palm) version, which means the field of view can be bigger or smaller depending on the user settings. on ppc the default view will display approximately the same area as on palm to make both platforms look consistent. |
| Kristopher | | | That's great, SZ! But it makes me wonder if people will all of a sudden be setting new records, making the current best times somewhat worthless. |
