Whoa, gold!

I was not expecting that. This isn't anything special, just a nice clean run of the track.

Backing up is obviously much better than not.

Hard to say it made a difference either way- you were ahead of me the entire time.

you know. that is a nice observation laser. at first thought, it would seem that Xuzz has a great point, since he was clearly about 5-6 bike lengths behind you at 1:22 and then he zooms ahead to take the lead. But if you really think about it (which you did) Xuzz might have been able to finish with the exact same time even without backing up like he did. That would mean that backing or not, they look to be about the same actually, because it seems that Xuzz was approx 1 sec ahead before the change in course, which is what he ended up beating you by.

very interesting says i.

Awesome run Xuzz, but Laser's finish was definitely faster. Xuzz was more than 1.5 secs ahead at the exit of the tail area (Xuzz-1:14:28 Laser-1:15:94) and finished less than 1 second faster than Laser.

With Xuzz's beginning and middle paired with Laser's finish, 1:36.xx is possible.

i dunno. half second on this big of a level is pretty easy to gain or lose. i think xuzz could have been more precise on the turn around up the hill. for me, the jury's still out.

If you really want an observation:

Most of the differences in how we played the level come from how we landed on the snout after climbing the left wall. Xuzz did it better, and was therefore able to gain his initial lead over me.

When it came to reaching the top of its head, because Xuzz was faster, he was able to go cleanly over the ear by hugging it (44-45), and bike straight down onto its back without issue. I, however, starting with less speed, petered out by the ears, and had to resort to dropping over (because dropping cleanly would have taken too much time since I was slow). It’s all a matter of being able to hug the turn, which I couldn’t.

On its back, the way I landed made me need to bounce my way across. As you can see at 52.xx, I was already in the air before we reaching the end of the “ramp” that was the first spike. Xuzz, with his clean drop, was able to just bike in a straight line.

Which leads to the inside tail section: My bounciness allowed me to somewhat catch up temporarily, but when it came to going around the bend, I couldn’t properly hug the spike at 1:04.xx because I was moving too slowly. This meant that my go around the bend was slower than Xuzz’s (whose speed before the third spike allowed him to make the drop into the “circle” more cleanly).

Look at 1:12.xx to 1:15, where Xuzz’s speed allows him to land further, closer to the point between the two spikes, into a jump. And what happens next? The best option for this scenario would be taking the momentum of the jump which is going to happen either way due to the way he landed, and jumping high and far, letting that momentum take you to the top of the hill in preparation of the final climb.

Since I went around the bend slower, I landed closer, meaning that I wasn’t forced into a jump as much as Xuzz was. That in combination with my slow speed itself, meant that my best option was starting the climb earlier instead of slowly biking to the top of the hill that Xuzz was able to jump to quickly.

At that point, it made VERY little difference which route we took, and if it looked like I was ahead for a bit, and then you “overtook” me, it has nothing to do with that.

Now, the results weren’t entirely predetermined from the fall in the very beginning that affected our speeds at 13.xx when we collapse against the walls, ultimately affecting how fast or slow we made the climb. I probably still could have done the drop at 46.xx better and the part following it.

However, you get my point.

A simple "Thank You" would have sufficed.
